1st day of thanksgiving giveaway: sara groves new christmas cd

Let's all sing together....
On the first day of thanksgiving tired supergirl's friends and acquaintances who donated lovely items gave to me - Sara Groves new christmas cd.
Today is the first official tired supergirl 10 days of Thanksgiving giveaway.
I thought about doing a 12 days of Christmas giveaway.
But I'm pretty sure that has been done before.
And what a better way to be thankful for the bounty that has been lavished upon me,
than to give away some things.
And I only have 10 items to give away so the #12 was not working for me.
So there you have it.
The first time I heard about Sara Groves was when my brother, Chris,
called me and told me one of his friends from college had put out an album,
Past the Wishing, and I needed to hear it. So I listened to it.
And I felt like Sara was singing all the prayers of my heart.
We got her to come sing at our little church in Burlingame and hung out
with her and her husband, Troy. They are keepers. Yes, they are.
3 things I like about Sara...
1. She writes and plays her own songs - that's sheer talent as far as I'm concerned
2. She sings about truth and Jesus and things that mean something - fantastic
3. She's funny - and you know how I feel about funny
Be prepared to thoroughly enjoy listening to her Christmas album and maybe to cry
a little. I'm not promising tears but sometimes she gets me, you know?
And I tend to be emotional at Christmas time anyway.
So I'm going in to listening to this with tissue on hand.

If you can't wait that long to buy it (because some of us like to get our Christmas tunes on early)you can buy it here.
And if you by chance are the winner and already have your own Sara Groves O Holy Night Christmas CD, you have the perfect gift for your best friend, Rita.
And if you don't win, maybe you should get one for Rita anyway. She deserves it.
She is your best friend after all.
The comments will be open until 8:00 pm on December 1st so tell all of your friends.
The winner of O Holy Night will be announced on December 2.
Make sure to leave your favorite Sara song or Christmas carol in the comments.

Your 10 days of Thanksgiving giveaway is a really cool idea! I really Sara Groves too. My favorite song of hers is "You Cannot Loose My Love."

Too many favorite Sara songs... guess it depends on what's going on in my life at the time. (I think she sings my heart too.) "Less Like Scars" was kind of a theme song for me a few years ago. And "You Cannot Lose My Love" has been sung to my children at a few hundred bedtimes. I love them all.

btw, Thanks for the blog love over on your sidebar!

My favorite Sara song is When the Saints, and my favorite Christmas song cannot be narrowed down to one but I love Carol of the Bells and O Holy Night. I want to win this SO BAD I don't even care about using proper adverbs. Oh I hope I get chosen, randomly of course. [Come on random number thingy, pick me!!]

Love Sara Groves' soulful voice...could make any song sound good! Favorite Christmas song is a hard one, but I think "angels we have heard on high" sung in harmony with my family has to rank up there pretty high!

I know that there will be a raffle for this, but I'd like to point out that I DESERVE it. The very night you posted the contest, we loaned all of our Sara Groves CDs to you pastor and his wife. We pointed out each song that will speak to their individual circumstances and which songs they needed a box of tissues for. Whenever my husband and I have a hard time we remind each other what Sara says, "It's gonna be all right." I am so excited to decorate my Christmas tree to her album!

I am in NEED of some new Christmas CD; let's just say a fairly large percentage of mine have Russ Taff, Michael W. and Glad on them, OK?

I love contests! I was totally unfamiliar with Sarah Groves... my husband is "just" a music pastor, you know??!! Seriously, I listen to what he syncs for me on the ipod... whatever tunes he has for work. I went to her site and I like her. I think I will have to get some of her music. :) thanks!

I have been listening to Christmas music to hasten in the season since just before Halloween! I am in Christmas heaven! Sara came to our church in PA years ago, before she was loved by all! Great memory!

"Painting Pictures of Egypt" is my hands-down favorite Sara Groves song. It so aptly described how I was feeling the first time I heard the song about a year ago, "caught between the promise and what I know" while understanding that "the places that used to fit me cannot hold the things I've learned, and those roads were closed off to me while my back was turned".

I love the song "O Come, O Come Emmanuel." It sets the perfect tone for the coming of the Messiah.

I also love "Zechariah's Song" by Go Fish. Which is another Christian group based right here in the frozen state of Minnesota.

(Did you see how I tied that back to Sara Groves? And I'm only drinking decaf tonight! Watch out!)

Love her music - O Holy Night is awesome!

I found you from Kelly's blog, and I will definitely be posting your cutie patootie button on my blog.

Favorite song...well, incidentally, it is Oh Holy Night, although I realize that is making me sound like I am jumping on the bandwagon here. But it is really hard to top the goodness of that song.

I have enjoyed Sarah the few times I have heard her but can not remember the titles of her songs. There is one about blessing the generations that will come after her. I like that one.

Lindsey said...

It Came Upon A Midnight Clear. Is that weird? No one ever picks that one but all the rest of the verses are about how the angels still sing peace and love to us today in a weary world. Word.

"Here With Us" by Joy Williams is my favorite Christmas song. And I love Sara Groves, and will definitely buy the album if I don't win. Thanks!

The song What Do I Know really touches my heart. Thanks for this giveaway - I'm a big fan of Sara Groves.

I like Nat King Cole's Christmas tape--this is Ruth, not Richard

I love "Mary's Song" because it nails the whole story. I also love "O Holy Night" (though not the super slow operatic version some services opt to sing) and the words of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentle(wo)men"

My favorite carol of ALL time is O Holy Night. Fave Classic: Bing Crosby White Christmas. Fave Voice of Christmas Nat King Cole. Fave current Song Mariah Carey's All I wannt for CHristmas is You. (Which has been out for years so I don't know if you'd consider it current...) And My Fave NEW song is Faith Hill's song from the Grinch Where are you Christmas.
Did I cover all the bases?

I am not familiar with Sara Groves' music, but I'm always on the lookout for a new favorite artist. And, Christmas music? I can't get enough of that, it puts me right in the mood for the holidays and the more worshipful the better.

Okay, confession - I haven't actually ever listened to Sara Groves :S
But I LOVE Christmas music - my favorite Christmas carol is Silent Night. Singing that at church on Christmas Eve with all the candles lit...it just gives me chills every time.

I love Sara! One of my favorite songs of hers talks about revival and the tent in the center of town...the melody reminds you of the circus :)

I have read of many churches celebrating Christmas with Pageants that include an actual baby portraying the role of 'baby Jesus'. Our first child Ruth, was born December 12th, 1981 and was chosen to be 'baby Jesus' for our church's (Reba Place Fellowship) Christmas Eve service. Last year, our grandson, Charlie, born on Oct. 19th 2008, was chosen, also at Reba Place Fellowship. But in prison no such ritual exists.

I wasn't even thinking about babies being in Christmas plays back in 1972. This was yet another year in prison the difference being this was my first Christmas as a christian. The Christmas service held new meaning for me as we sang the traditional Christmas Carols bringing with it a hope for a new life with a redeemed future. Christian volunteers were apart of our service at the U. S. Medical Center for Prisoners in Springfield, Mo.

As our service wound to completion a cry was heard. The faint whimpering of a baby. My first thought was that I wasn't hearing what I thought I had heard. I had been in prison for many years and had never even seen a baby inside of a prison (not counting my infrequent times in the visiting room.) But there it was again, a baby crying. Someone, a volunteer, had brought their baby into the service wrapped in a blanket unnoticed by the guards. I then thought, there was our 'baby Jesus'.

The parents of the yet unknown child were the children of an older couple (Lloyd and Nita Colbaugh) who had only a few years previously began their ministry to the prison. Even the great-grandmother (Mom Carter) was a volunteer and had played a significant role in my own conversion, telling me that God had a plan for my life.

Life would go on and the incident of 'baby Jesus' coming to prison would fade to a memory, until the baby grew up and now is known throughout many countries far and wide as acclaimed singer/songwriter Sara Groves.

I hope this story adds to your appreciation of the life of Sara and her family.
