easter thoughts

Today is our second day of Easter vacation.
Even now I am sitting in my robe and sipping a cup of coffee,
thinking back over the weekend.
Easter Sunday was all that it should be.
Excited kids. Good food. Egg hunts. Easter baskets.
Thankfulness for all that Jesus has done.
And of course, some craziness in the kids gathering.
What would a kids gathering be without some craziness?
Jenny and I were in a full sweat by the end of teaching time.
We find teaching to be engaging on all levels - mentally, physically and spiritually - we call out on the sweet Lord frequently while trying to keep the kids attention.
I had the brilliant idea to bring white towels from home and re-enact
the scene of the women coming to the empty tomb.
Three little girls put the towels on their heads.
Will spread a towel across his back like angel wings,
eager to tell the news that the tomb was empty.
The tomb was a little fabric pop up house that we use to play in.
Except the tomb wasn't empty since Addison kept crawling inside it
so each time Will went to say "Jesus is alive. The tomb is empty,"
Addison would peek his head out the door.
Until I said, not unkindly, "Get out of the tomb, Addison."
Silly kid...he thought it was a play house being multi-colored and all.
At some point during the tomb diorama craft, there was an argument
over whether the tiny grave clothes in the construction paper tomb
were made of toilet paper cut into strips.
The boys were in favor of toilet paper being enamored of all things toilet related,
the girls maintained it was tissue. Thank God for the girls.
I firmly said, "It's kleenex. Make your craft."
At which point, Jack informed me that this was so "boring."
I thought about sending him to the playhouse tomb for time out.
But then thought that might send mixed messages to the other children.
So we ended up playing freeze dance. As the song, "Lord, you are good"
came on the children burst out dancing, joy on their faces, arms flung out.
Not that I'm biased or anything but those Pathway kids have some sweet moves.
Gracie busted out with a back handspring. Twice.
Even the baby I was holding that had been crying was silenced at the
sight of all those kids dancing. It was a fitting end for Easter Sunday,
seeing them jumping, skipping and break dancing to the words,
I worship you! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! I worship you for who you are! You are good!
And he is. Even with all the crazy.

He's especially good in the midst of the crazy. The LORD of the jungle, and all that.

Happy Easter! (A few days late.)
