hair redemption

If you have been reading this blog for any length of time
you know that I have hair issues and truth be told, a lot of other issues as well.
I have had bang troubles.
I have had hair color troubles.
I have had eyebrow troubles.
And I have had troubles with getting an appropriate picture,
one of good quality and without children present in the photo,
to send to my publisher.
Because sometimes people don't just sit around taking good pictures of themselves.
Sometimes all the pictures they have of themselves were taken before college.
When I was 14, my cousin Beth and I would take pictures of each other modeling.
I believe in one picture I actually wore a beret.
Which makes sense since Paris is the center of fashion. Paris = beret = fashion.
But since that photographic season of my life,
there has not been a whole lot of picture taking.
So I have put together a small anthology, if you will,
to see that, behold, all things have become new.
And I will be able to hold my head up high,
thanks to good lighting and my friend Bonnie, photographer extraordinaire.
We begin at the beginning,
with the photo I that I thought would be just fine to send
on to the publishing company,
that I had Scott take up against the wall of our apparently poorly lit living room.

Ghettofabulous wall picture. Take 1.
Then we have the extreme-bang-makeover-Sue-edition where I hacked away at my overly
long bangs, rendering them unfit for public viewing.
This meant there had to be a growing out period
before we could take any other pictures.

Bang-tastrophe. Take 2.
Then we have the first photo shoot a la Bonnie
where the rings of Saturn are revealed living on my head.
Notice the dark brown ring in the center, followed by the light ring of gray,
ending with the nice reddish brown.
In this photo it is now revealed that people (me) need to visit a hair salon,
to get their hair cut and colored professionally,
before enlisting gracious friends to take their picture.

The rings of shame. Take 3.
And so we have the final picture, after Dolly, the hair guru,
works her disappearing rings of hair magic,
followed by the photographic excellence of Bonnie, photographer extraordinaire.
Voila!

And we see, that God in his good heaven, has seen fit to redeem what some
thought unredeemable. First my soul. Now my hair.

The Lord is faithful even in the Valley of the Rings of Shame.

Great photo. I hope it graces the jacket of many wonderful books.

I found your blog through BooMama. I love your picture-- you look great. I was immediately struck by your blog because I have a son Jack (3) and a daughter Addison (6). I know your Addison is a boy though. I have enjoyed your writing and humor!

GREAT PIC! Actually, I also like the rings of saturn one too - and had to really look to see the rings... but the last one is simply fantabulous.

GREAT PHOTO!!

Make up looks good -- I like the lighter lip stick color.
Hair looks good -- it more closely matches your eyebrows.
Eyebrows look good -- what more can I say?

WOWZA!!! Now... can this be maintained? ME? Never... I only look good for milliseconds at a time. If you can figure it out -- please blog about it. =)
