monday's to do list

I'm sitting here at my kitchen table staring out the window into my back yard.
It is dreary outside here even though it is mid-May.
I keep trying to tell the sky, "This is California. Do your thing."
It feels more like I live in Seattle this morning.
But I'm good with that. I have a day of indoor activities ahead of me
and lovely weather would just taunt me.
First on the list....can you guess? Of course, you can. Laundry.
After being gone for four days last week, I have not been able to catch up.
For a brief time yesterday, Addison had no underwear.
I tried to convince him to wear a swimsuit for some type of coverage but
he wasn't having it. He looked at me and his swimsuit with disdain.
So the laundry marathon continues.
Then there are the bills. Enough said.
Thirdly, there are some boxes I need to get ready for the post office.
I can't get them ready and out in a day. I don't know why - it is a defect in my
makeup. So I pack the boxes one day and take them to the post office the next.
Next, I have on-line traffic school to hammer out today.
I know you are shocked and appalled like I am that I got a ticket.
I was over in a part of town where they doing construction and had reconfigured turn lanes - lo and behold, the intersection where I have turned a million u-turns in the past 6 years no longer allows u-turns.
I was promptly pulled over by a policewoman asking me if I knew what I had done wrong.
And I didn't. She said, "No u-turns."
And I said, "Really? I thought it was a tight turn - I'm sorry - I didn't realize it didn't allow u-turns."
And she said, "There was a sign." And gave me a ticket. No grace, people.
To add insult to injury on the ticket it stated, "Created gridlock."
My sister, Erica, said I should feel powerful that I have the ability to create gridlock. I'm trying to own that even now.
So I am doing online traffic school to show the state of California that I do, in fact, know how to drive, despite my flagrant disregard of their signage, and in return, they won't put a point on my driving record and drive up my insurance.
For that I am thankful.
And lastly, on today's to do list, I'm thinking it is the perfect day for scones.
Because sometimes you have to put something on your to do list to look forward to.
So I am making Sheila's Scones (best scones ever!) with raspberries.
Thought you might like the recipe in case you need to put them on your to do list, too.

Sheila's Scones
2 C flour
1 T baking powder
1/4 sugar
Mix together.
Cut in 1/2 C butter until crumbly.
Stir in 1 C buttermilk.
Fold in small carton of raspberries.
Form into a round on a greased cookie sheet.
Cut into 12 pie shaped pieces and seperate on cookie sheet.
Sprinkle with sugar.
Bake at 400 for 12-15 minutes (depends on your oven) until golden.

Eat warm out of the oven with a nice hot cup of tea with lots of milk or a big fat coffee because now it doesn't matter anymore that there is laundry and traffic school since scones makes everything better.
Enjoy!

I haven't heard of online traffic school! Maybe we don't have that in sheltered ol' Iowa....or maybe I haven't gotten the right kind of ticket, which is odd because I've gotten plenty of tickets. Hmmmmm....
