tomatoes and things

I just went out into my little herb garden and noticed that the very first tomato has decided to show itself.
It is marble small, green and hard as a gumball. And I am thrilled.
I await it's small brothers and sisters with much anticipation.
More importantly, the garden is starting to smell like tomatoes - you know - that green fresh summery smell.
This is always amazing to me since the smell of the soil that I plant them in has much more of sewer smell.
I stand their tiny stems in a rich loam of organic mulch which has all kind of
animal droppings in it...chicken manure, bat guano, worm castings....why this is good for them I'm not sure but I've been told it's fantastic by real gardeners so I'm going with it.
I can't understand how such a clean tomato-y smell is yielded from such a ripe and funky manure smell but it is.
I know there has to be a life lesson in there somewhere.
There are times when life feels pretty ripe over here at the Aughtmons.
On more than one occasion, I have thought, "Hey, my life stinks!"
But I know in the grand scheme of things that God is doing a good work in my smelly life that reeks of imperfection and stress and and fear and misunderstanding.
And that some day soon, something glorious and sweet smelling will be yielded.
God promised in his word.
He who began a good work in me will be faithful to complete it.
I'm just glad he's not afraid to get his hands dirty.

I have to say I LOVE your honesty!!!!!! I think my life stinks sometimes and next time I'm feeling that way, I would like to think of it as manure. I love you! Beth

I guess you found the life lesson within! I am so in awe of GOD, who can speak so loudly through such simple things. Grow me LORD, even if you have to use a 'special' fertilizer - just don't let me stay there!!!

These type of life lessons, demonstrated thru the "real things" of life, mean more to me than any pastor's fancy words....you bless me, Sue, w/ your insight!
Keep up the good work / writing!
Love from Patty
