procrastination is my gifting

For those of you who have followed this blog for any length of time,
you know that my dream was to be a writer and it came true 3 years ago.
Because of God's strong grace in my life, I have been allowed to write two books
and just signed a contract to write my third.
And I am beyond thrilled to be able to do it!
Thrilled is actually an understatement.
I love the fact that I get to do what I love.
But when it comes right down to the actual writing, the sitting in front of the computer and tap-tapping the keys and turning my thoughts into words on the page,
there is usually a thought that pops into my head saying something like,
"You really should know more about the Bush people in Africa."
And I am immediately convinced, clearly I cannot write one word of my book,
until I know more about the people who starred in the movie, "The Gods Must Be Crazy".
Once you get into the history of the Bush people you must realize that it segues neatly into the Maasai tribe and then I might as well just put off writing until tomorrow because really the whole of African history lays before me and I wouldn't want to neglect my duty as a world participant in understanding all of the peoples of Africa.
So today as I set out to write, I am telling myself, with a strong and steady voice,
"Knowledge of the Bush people is not vital to your survival. Just sit down and write something."
Even now I have a blank document before me beckoning me to write something profound and moving....something that speaks of truth and grace and joy.
I wonder who the indigenous people of the Marshall Islands are.

I have a book for you~ it is called "The War of Art" by Steven Pressfield. I'm not kidding. It will help and inspire you. (And you can read in tiny doses, too!)

So happy for your new book!!! That's so awesome. Can't wait to read it. XO

Well get on it already! But seriously, I don't read your blog and books because you know so much about the Marshall Islands or Africa...I read your words because your heart is open and you provide the voice for all of us who are too tired to put pen to paper at the end of the day. Thank you for your honesty (and I find that the Aboriginals are sooo much more fascinating!)

I am so excited to hear that you are writing book #3! I have given your "jeans" book as gifts to several of my supergirl friends and all have related and loved it! I was wondering if you have heard the song "Free to be me" by Francesca Battistelli...it could be the tired supergirls theme song minus the line where she says she's 20 years old (we could change it to 30-40-something year olds...:)Thanks for all you do! I feel like we could easily meet at Starbuck's and instantly hit it off!April

It's not very often I stumble on a blog that makes me laugh out loud.

Today was different.

Wow. You are one gifted writer. I LOVE your humor. Now, after reading just a couple blog posts, I'm off to purchase one of your books.

Any chance I'll run across you at a writers conference?
